Participants from several African countries: Mozambique, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa met recently at the Vineyard Hotel Conference Centre to discuss heart failure.
We were honoured to have Prof Wim de Villiers (Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences), Prof Andre Pascal Kenge (Head of Non-Communicable Diseases, Medical Research Council of South Africa) and Professor Bongani Mayosi (Head, Department of Medicine, University of Cape Town) among our guests.
Dr Kim Lamont and Sandra Pretorius gave a detailed presentation on their ideals on preventing heart failure in African women through innovative eHealth approaches.
This was followed by a presentation by Dr George Kararigas (Charite Berlin) on the research activities undertaken at Charite (under the leadership of Prof Vera Regitz-Zagrosek). He provided details of their Masters training eHealth programme.
The morning session was concluded by presentations from Drs Ogah (Nigeria) and Dzudie (Cameroon) on the research set up and resources available to them in their specific sites.
