The Institute hosted the 3rd Annual Cape Town Cardiac Disease in Pregnancy Symposium

The 3rd Annual Cardiac disease in pregnancy was held at ‘The Hatter Institute’ in Cape Town South Africa. This symposium is held annually and once again was well attended by a diverse group of people who all have an interest in cardiac disease in maternity. The Symposium was honoured to have world renowned speakers who gave a variety of presentations covering predominantly Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, the theme for this year’s symposium. Several members of the EORP PPCM working group met at the symposium.

Some of the key speakers were: Prof. Vera Regitz-Zagrosek & Prof. Johann Bauersachs (Germany), Prof Karen Sliwa,Prof Priya Soma-Pillay, Dr Feriel Azibani, Prof. Liesl Zühlke, Prof Elena Libhaber & Prof John Anthony (South Africa), Prof Peter van der Meer (Netherlands) Prof Mark Petrie (Scotland) Prof. Amam Mbakwem (Nigeria), Prof Ana Mocumbi (Mozambique) and Prof. Sorel Goland (Israel).

Next years ‘Cardiac Disease in Pregnancy’ symposium will take place at the same venue on the 29 September (World Heart Day), 1 & 2nd Oct 2019. The 2019 symposium will focus on ‘Rheumatic Heart Disease in Pregnancy’. We would be delighted to see you all at the symposium.
